Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Review

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Book 1 in the Hush, Hush series
Paperback, 391 pages
4/5 Stars

Description from Goodreads:

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

So where to start..this book did take me awhile to read but it wasn't because it wasn't good. I just had so much going on while trying to read this book. When I started it I flew through the first 100 pages or so and then I had to slow down because of life. But anyways, I really enjoyed this book. I am a big fan of young adult paranormal books.I have read a lot of reviews where people say how annoying Nora is, and she kinda is but I think its annoying in a sensible way. If that makes sense. Not annoying in a Bella way. (I did like Twilight but c'mon, Bella is annoying.) Nora's annoyingness seems to make sense for what shes going through to me. She lives at home, her father was killed awhile ago and her mom has a job that takes up all of her time and she even isn't home at all for days. So Nora just has the housekeeper around her most of the time. Then she meets Patch and thats when things start to get weird. She keeps seeing this person dressed in black following her everywhere, she is forced to work with Patch in class and he tends to show up everywhere she is too. So she wonders if there isn't something wrong with Patch. The book goes on to show Nora and Patch's relationship change from schoolmates to friends or frenemies in Nora's mind and on. Along the way Nora has her best friend Vee and two guys she met at a cafe, Elliot and Jules. There is a kind of twist at the end but for me it wasn't overly shocking. I kind of saw it coming. I was never 100% sure but I thought there was a possibility. This is a good book if you enjoy young adult paranormal with angels and fallen angels.

Waiting on Wednsday [3]

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where she spotlights upcoming releases.

So I have been falling behind on this weekly memes lately. I've been busy at work and tired when I'm home. And I'm going to cheat some on this one. The book I'm waiting on this week is actually already out. But, I won't get it til Christmas. I couldn't afford it so my sister bought it for me and said I had to wait til then. So I'm trying to patiently wait..Ha! So the book is...

DIVERGENT!

Goodreads Description:
Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place her in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

So many of you have probably already read this and think I'm crazy for having not read it yet, but really, I just read The Hunger Games this summer. And I haven't read any of the great books that are the "it" books with awesome reviews yet. I am behind. I wish I had like $500 for buying books so I could get them all. Haha. But anyways I am super excited to read this. I mean I have plenty of books to hold me over til then but I will probably start reading this right when I get it! :D

The First Official Hunger Games Trailer! :D

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I feel like such a fangirl but omg! I am soooooo excited! I absolutely love the trailer and think everyone is going to be PERFECT!!!! I was kinda sad that we didn't hear some o the famous lines but maybe on the next trailer or tv spots when they come out! I got teary when Katniss yells "I volunteer" after Prim is chosen and Prim is screaming and crying. (That gave me chills typing it.) And when Gale says "They just want a good show. Thats al they want." and Katniss says "Theres 24 of us Gale, and only 1 gets out" gave me goosebumps. And at the end when Katniss is lifted into the arena and theres the countdown before the kids take off...*sigh* I'm just speechless! Is it March yet?!

This week's question:

"In light of 11.11.11 and Veteran’s Day tell us about your favorite soldier and how he or she is saving the world. Fictional or real life."

I would say my grandpa and my sister. My grandpa was back during the Korean War and my sister just got back from Afghanistan the end of this summer. Know Me Better [2]

Know Me Better is a weekly meme hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer so you can get to know me better. If you want to join in you can post your answers or go to I Am A Reader, Not a Writer and join the linky list.

Heres this weeks questions:

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
My year supply of food, my family and a pile of books.

What is one book everyone should read?

The Bible is a good answer. That of course, and maybe The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird. And The Hunger Games for fun and intensity.

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

I always say read minds. But then I don't know if I truly wanna know what every thinks. Maybe to be invisible when I want to. You can hear them talk about you but no all their thoughts. Haha

Harry Potter or Twilight?

Harry Potter. Its always been Harry Potter. I like(d) Twilight but never more than Harry Potter. Harry Potter is what got me into reading and I grew up with it.

Gum or Breath Mints?

Gum, I suppose.

Now it's your turn! Share an answer to one or more of these questions as a comment or post your answers on your blog and link up here!

This week I am waiting on:
The Darkest Seduction by Gena Showalter. (Book 9 of the Lord of the Underworld series.)
Release Date: February 21, 2012.

Goodreads: Possessed by the demon of Promiscuity, immortal warrior Paris is irresistibly seductive-but his potent allure comes at a terrible price. Every night he must bed someone new, or weaken and die. And the woman he craves above all others is the one woman he’d thought was forever beyond his reach…until now.

Newly possessed by the demon of Wrath, Sienna Blackstone is racked by a ruthless need to punish those around her. Yet in Paris’s arms, the vulnerable beauty finds soul-searing passion and incredible peace. Until a blood feud between ancient enemies heats up.

I did just recently figure out that you can get Kindle for your PC so I've gotten a lot of free books the last few days but I'm not going to name them all. I'll just show the one book I bought today and its a physical book.

And I just do my reviews as I'm done with the book so I have none to post here but my latest one is on Marked by P.C and Kristen Cast.

Marked by P.C and Kristen Cast Review

Marked by P.C Cast and Kristen Cast
Book 1 in the House of Night series
Hardcover, 306 pages
 4/5 stars.

Description (from Goodreads)
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed.  In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire -- that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.  It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling.  She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.  But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.  When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

I was reading another book when I started this so I only read like the first chapter and then I stopped for about a week. But once I picked it back up and continued to read I really enjoyed it. The only reason I took so long to read it is because of life getting in the way. :) Although the beginning was a little slow, which usually happens with the first book in a series because everything has to be set up, the rest of the book was great! Once Zoey gets to school  things really pick up. We meet Zoey's new friends and her new enemies. This book is mostly about Zoey transitioning into her new life as a fledgling vampyre. But she is a little more special than the average fledgling.

I would say if you like young adult books and paranormal vampire stories, then give this book a shot. Its a nice quick read too (if you don't have a busy life like I did while reading it. :p)

Spring. I love the warmer weather, and the blooming flowers and plants. Its just so pretty and the singing birds and the days start to get longer. :)

PC or Mac?
PC. My boyfriend is a computer guy so I hear lots about whats better and what sucks. And hes a PC man. :P

Favorite music?
I like a variety of music. Some bands/singers I like are Ingrid Michaelson, The Fray, Lifehouse, Daft Punk, Shonen Knife and Cobra Starship. Quite a variety.

Facebook or Twitter?
I use both but I'm on facebook way more.

What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you'd be embarrassed to admit?
I don't watch much t.v anymore but I have watched Jersey Shore a few times and I don't get the appeal. And I guess the book it Twilight. I still like the books but I am embarrassed at how much I liked them when I read them the first time. I was acting like a 13 year old girl at the age of 20. :\

Waiting on Wednesday! [1]

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where she spotlights upcoming releases.

This week I am waiting on:
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Release date: 12/6/11

Description taken from Goodreads:
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Sooooo I absolutely love The Mortal Instruments and the first book in the prequel The Infernal Devices series, Clockwork Angel, was amazing! I love all the characters. And Jem and Will are both great in their own way. I am so excited to find out more about Will's past and see whats going on with this love triangle!

What are you waiting on this week?

The Book I Am Most Thankful For

Check out Beth Revis blog to learn how to win 19 books and let every know what book you are most thankful for!

I guess I would have to say the book I am most thankful for is To Kill a Mockingbird. This was one of those books I had to read in high school and I was not looking forward to it because I never liked the books they made us read. But I absolutely loved the story! There is so much to learn from this book! I guess I am also thankful for my teacher for making us read this, otherwise I probably never would have.

First Blog Hop Coming Up!

I will join in on my first blog hop this month! Hope you all come check it out! :)

Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner Review

Now this is my first review for my new blog, so bear with me please! :)

Certain Girls is book #2 of the Cannie Shapiro books. Book #1 is called Good in Bed.
I read the large print edition, 491 pages.
Rating: 2.5 (Possibly 3, still on the fence) stars/5

Description from Goodreads:
Readers fell in love with Cannie Shapiro, the smart, sharp-tongued, bighearted heroine of Good in Bed who found her happy ending after her mother came out of the closet, her father fell out of her life, and her ex-boyfriend started chronicling their ex-sex life in the pages of a national magazine.

Now Cannie's back. After her debut novel -- a fictionalized (and highly sexualized) version of her life -- became an overnight bestseller, she dropped out of the public eye and turned to writing science fiction under a pseudonym. She's happily married to the tall, charming diet doctor Peter Krushelevansky and has settled into a life that she finds wonderfully predictable -- knitting in the front row of her daughter Joy's drama rehearsals, volunteering at the library, and taking over-forty yoga classes with her best friend Samantha.

As preparations for Joy's bat mitzvah begin, everything seems right in Cannie's world. Then Joy discovers the novel Cannie wrote years before and suddenly finds herself faced with what she thinks is the truth about her own conception -- the story her mother hid from her all her life. When Peter surprises his wife by saying he wants to have a baby, the family is forced to reconsider its history, its future, and what it means to be truly happy.

I really enjoyed Good in Bed (book #1) and didn't even know there was a 2nd book until recently. I figured the first one was great, why not read the second one. Meh..I don't think I should have cared so much about reading it.

The book was just slow for me. It was okay, but it didn't make me want to read non-stop. And once I put it down, it stayed down for quite awhile. The main characters, Cannie and her daughter, Joy, both annoyed me throughout most of the book. There were good parts but for me there were few and far between. It wasn't til about the last 200 pages or so that it got a little better. There were some surprises towards the end but I didn't like it much. It gives some warm and touching moments that help the book along, but truly they didn't help enough.

So I guess if you've read the first book, you can give this one a try just to see how it all turns out. But I wouldn't put a rush on it. I'd read it only if you have nothing else to read. Because I have many other books I want to read and at times I was wishing I was reading one of them instead.
